The seal of approval for Hitachi
The innovative range of top quality construction equipment designed by Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd (HCM) was recently recognised by the International Design Forum Hannover (iF). The manufacturer received the iF product design award in the transportation category for its range of Zaxis-3 excavators.
The iF seal of fine design quality is a recognised trademark. The Forum runs five different design competitions – product, communication, material, Chinese region and concept – on an annual basis and a wide range of industries are represented.
The awards date back to 1954 and this year’s competition attracted over 2,292 entries from 35 different countries. The jury for each award category comprises of top international designers who critically examine all of the entries. The winners not only receive an award, but are also given special iF status and allowed to use the iF quality label.
The Hitachi Zaxis-3 excavators have made a huge impact since their launch throughout the world, including key European markets. The technologically advanced machines have been designed with a range of improved functions and are already renowned for their better performance, ultimate comfort and safety, and reduced running costs.
One of the series main design features is a stronger cab structure. An L-shaped pillar is a key part of this and offers increased protection for the operator. A colour multi-display monitor and rear-view camera also provide enhanced visibility and access to invaluable operational data.
“The jury outlined that the design of the Hitachi Zaxis-3 hydraulic excavators conveyed strength and credibility,” explains Raymond Hendriks, Manager Corporate Communication at Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV. “They also highlighted enhanced productivity, durability and reliability as reasons behind their decision.
“The iF awards are regarded as one of the most important design competitions worldwide and so this is a great achievement for HCM. We can now also refer to the iF status in all of our future Zaxis-3 marketing communication materials.”
