Hitachi introduces a new short tail swing mini excavator: Zaxis 27U-2
As from May 2006, Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV will introduce the Zaxis 27U-2 to the European market. The Zaxis 27U-2 is additional to the current range of short tail swing mini-excavators.
The main target market for the Zaxis 27U-2 is Europe. The canopy version can be transported on a trailer, because its maximum weight does not exceed 2.8 T. Operators can easily take their machine to different jobsites without arranging special transport.
The design of the new short tail swing mini excavator is based on 4 main items: stability, maintainability, durability and operator comfort.
Stability
In order to give the new short tail swing machines the excellent stability, a number of stability-improving designs have been applied to the machines.
First of all the track frame and the enlarged counterweight have been made as heavy as possible. Both help lower the centre of gravity. Secondly the swing post has been designed to be as light a possible and the swing post itself has been placed towards the centre of the machine as much as possible. Lastly a standard additional counter weight can be used when the machine is operated with a heavy attachment. When this additional counter weight is attached to the machine, the upper structure only exceeds the track width of the machine by just a few centimetres. When the additional counter weight is not on, the machine is a true zero tail swing machine.
Maintainability
As with any Hitachi machine, you will find the Zaxis U-2 series trouble free and requiring very little maintenance. When you do have to service a part, you can access most components easily.
One can tilt the cabin or canopy up to an angle of 50 degrees (widest in its class), which gives access to the main control valve and the swing device. On the right side of the machines one can find a maintenance cover, which gives access to the battery, the radiator, the fuel tank and the hydraulic oil tank.
The machines have a unique engine cover that can be opened by sliding it vertically. In this way the engine cover opening-radius does not exceed the width of the machine, which means daily maintenance on the machine can be done at a confined job site. This type of engine cover also makes maintenance easier because the engine cover itself does not block any daylight.
When the engine cover is opened, the engine oil filter, the engine oil inlet, the water separator and the air cleaner can be accessed very easily. On the back left side of the machine there is another maintenance cover that gives access to the hydraulic oil pump and the pilot filter.
Durability
The new Zaxis 27U-2 is very durable because of the following aspects: the machines have a one pin system which reduces jerking of the swing post. The upper structure of the machine, on the front left and right corners, has been reinforced with a D-shaped protection.
The Hitachi original HN bushings are utilized at all pin joints of the front attachment, which extend the lubricating intervals to 500 hours.
Operator comfort
The excellent operator comfort contributes to the user-friendliness of the new range of machines. Operators will stay fit for a longer period due to the ergonomic design, air conditioning and shock-absorbing rubber mounts for the cabin.
All machines with a cabin have standard air conditioning, a standard radio and a two- piece door that folds open. The two-piece door stays within the width of the tracks of the machine when opened. The LCD monitor, which provides various important operating information, is placed on the front right side in the cabin. Operators can check the monitor by looking slightly to the right.
Another important feature is the location of the second speeds switch. A switch located on the right console has replaced the existing button on the floor mat. This makes it possible to drive the machine at second speeds with the pedals.
The new short tail mini-excavators are designed to do the job that truly matters. Please be our guest and try our new excavators yourself!
